Cornell Lab All About Birds and eBird will soon be updating our checklists for the upcoming Taxonomy Update. And it’s a big update!
According to Cornell Lab All About Birds, “each October, the eBird taxonomy is updated to reflect the latest science on bird classification—including new species, splits, lumps, shuffles, and other changes. This year’s update will be the last before eBird fully transitions to the AviList global taxonomy.
In preparation for the full October 28 taxonomy update, you may notice some of your eBird records changing over the next few weeks. For example, “Warbling Vireo” entries may begin appearing as Warbling Vireo (Eastern) or Warbling Vireo (Western).“
