Purple Martins are engaging birds that provide much enjoyment through their social chatter their entertaining flight, and insect-eating habits. Once martins take up residence, they return year after year, bringing a dynamic way to welcome spring! Matins also provide opportunities for nature projects enjoyable to young and old a like.

Speaker Bio:

Jennifer Tyrrell is the community Science and Research Program Manager at Audubon South Carolina. In that role Jen specializes in Motus Tower installation and operation, native plants, bird friendly communities, bird banding and research, and occasionally hosts Bird Trivia and paints bird murals. Jen lives on James Island with her Husband and two daughters. Jen and her husband also own Gene’s Haufbrau, the oldest bar in Charleston. 

Brief Program Description:

Jen will discuss the natural history, biology, and habits of this unique bird, as well as how to properly manage a colony. Find out how you too can be a Purple Martin (PUMA) landlord! Either with Seabrook Islands’ own Purple Martin project or establish one of your own.
