Celebrity Shorebirds: connecting through stories

Program Description:

“Shorebirds teach us we are all connected”. This quote by Australian author Milly Formby highlights the charisma and adventure of shorebirds noting the links we share with them in their life history. For “Shorebird Celebrity: connecting through stories” Wildlife Biologist Janet Thibault will highlight some stories of famous shorebirds and how to incorporate their compelling tales when connecting with beachgoers.

Presenter’s Bio:

Janet Thibault (“Tee Bo”) is a Wildlife Biologist in the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. She has been working in DNR’s Coastal Bird Program since 2011. Before receiving a Masters degree in Wildlife Biology from Clemson University, she participated in a variety of avian conservation and research projects throughout the United States. Past projects include working with nesting seabirds in Massachusetts, Sandhill Crane migration in Nebraska, native honeycreepers in Hawaii, and puffins nesting in Alaska. The focus of her current position is seabird and shorebird conservation along the coast of South Carolina including aerial counts of migratory red knots and nesting seabirds, black skimmer banding and resighting, and the restoration of Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary in Charleston.
