Seabrook Island Birders recently lost one of its founders. George Haskins passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 92. For many years, George spent his winters on Seabrook Island, moving away only a few years ago when he was no longer able to make the trip from Syracuse, NY.
While on Seabrook Island, George had several loves. One was golf, one was volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and the one he did constantly–birding. Back in 2015, he joined a number of other birding enthusiasts to form the Seabrook Island Birders. He was the inaugeral Secretary and drafted the club initial bylaws. Whenever he was on the island, George participated in the many activities offered by the club
You can read what he wrote about himself in this Member Profile. His published obituary in the Berkshire Eagle mentions his involvement. The funeral home’s obituary page includes a longer self-reported life history.
George is missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his laid back persona and dry humor.
