Lovebirds. We’ve heard, and used, this term many times in our lives. But who are the real Lovebirds, where do they come from, and are they really more affectionate than other birds?

Valentine’s Day prompted a little research on the subject and turned up an interesting article by Kenn Kaufman (birder extraordinaire), published by Audubon a few years ago. It turns out these little parrots really do have a strong attachment to one another. You’re probably familiar with them, as they’re very popular as pets, but unless you’ve been to Africa or Madagascar, you may not have had an opportunity to see these birds in the wild.

So, how did they earn their name? To learn more about these adorable little parrots and their unique bond, click here to read an article Kenn wrote for Audubon Magazine. As a bonus, he answers two more reader questions which you may also find interesting.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
