As Seabrook Island Birders continues to celebrate its 10th anniversary, we are proud to reflect on the programs and outreach that continue to inspire birdwatching, learning, and conservation. This milestone year has also given rise to a new philanthropic effort focused on supporting youth education, allowing your membership dues to extend our impact well beyond our own organization.
On Saturday, April 18, we were pleased to participate in the Barrier Island Earth Day 5K as a table sponsor. The event raised more than $14,000 for the Scholarship and Outreach Fund for the 2026–27 school year. These funds help provide Environmental Education Programs for 17 schools and support visits from St. Christopher staff naturalists (Click Here to Learn More). Each year, St. Christopher educators reach approximately 8,000 students through programs at their Seabrook camp, where most participants take part in a three-day, two-night immersive barrier island environmental education experience. Staff also visit local schools, bringing lessons about our barrier island ecosystem directly into the classroom. The impact of this work is far-reaching.

This year’s trail run was held in beautiful weather and followed a scenic route through Seabrook Island’s maritime forest. Our table was joined by fellow community organizations, including the Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy and the Charleston Area Beekeepers Association. The Seabrook Island Photography Club documented the event with more than 800 wonderful photos (Click Here to See). We are grateful for the opportunity to support this meaningful educational initiative and look forward to continuing to invest your membership dollars in the local community in the years ahead.
