SIB Member Profile: Deanna Forsythe

Deanna Forsythe is originally from York, PA. She was a 6th grade teacher for 25 years before
retiring to Seabrook Island (Jenkin’s Point) with her husband, Dan, an anesthesiologist at Roper
Bon Secour St. Francis. The Forsythe’s are proud parents of 3 grown children, Adam, Alexis
and Marissa.

Deanna enjoys the beauty and nature of Seabrook Island and meeting new people, so she decided to
go on a backyard birding event in the Spring of 2023. From there, Deanna started attending
more and more events and learned more about birds from other experienced birders in the club.
She is currently the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Seabrook Island Birders and has been a Shorebird
Steward for two years. Currently, she is on the Shorebird Steward Committee, the Purple
Martin Committee, and the Board Development Committee.

Deanna wants others to know that you don’t have to be an expert birder to be a member of Seabrook
Island Birders. Your knowledge of birds will grow with experience and the more you learn, the
more you’ll want to protect the birds in our small slice of paradise.
