Join SIB in celebrating our nation’s semiquincentennial and its birds by participating in a scavenger hunt. You can bird by yourself or with others….just see or hear birds for each of the categories below.
S – Seabird or Shorebird
E – Early bird
M – Marsh bird
I – Indigo or blue bird
Q – Quick or Quiet bird
U – Ugly bird
I – Inky bird
N – Noisy bird
C – Caching bird
E – Energetic
N – Night bird
T – Tapping bird
E – Extra big bird
N – Nut eating bird
N – Nestbox bird
I – Impersonators
A – American bird
L – Lots of colors bird
The rules of the challenge are simple: when you are out birding on the 4th of July weekend (July 2nd through July 5). No counts are needed. Just enter the species of the birds for each category. A species can be used for only one category. So an American Crow can be used for a “noisy” bird or an “inky” bird but not both. If a bird fits a category in your mind, no one is going to say you are wrong….it’s OK if you think an American Crow is a “Lots of color” bird. We may laugh with you but not at you. This means, if you can’t fit a bird into a category or a can’t find a bird for a category, make it fit…we won’t judge.
The prize is for bragging rights and possibly your name in a blog about creative responses. I hope you have as much fun participating as we did in creating it.
Please submit your responses by Monday evening, July 6.
